Implement ‘Marpu’ plan effectively, officials told

Nizamabad: In-charge Collector K Harshavardhan directed the officials to ensure effective implementation of ‘Marpu’ programme for controlling infant and maternal mortality rates in the district. He held a review meeting on ‘Marpu’ programme with the health officials at Collectorate here on Thursday.
Mr Harshavardhan said that as many as 7,651 deliveries were performed in Primary Health Centres and Government Area Hospitals in the last four months across the district. The number of pregnant women coming to the government hospitals is steadily increasing and more efforts should be made to encourage people especially in the rural areas to go for institutional deliveries, he added. The In-charge Collector pointed out the government doctors and medical staff in Morthad and Kummarpalli mandals were not discharging their duties properly and several complaints from the people were received against the medical staff.
